I am supposed to be interviewed this wk by facilities here and have read alot of horrible things about both islands and some about trustaff. Has anyone been with professionalnurse to the islands recently? I"m sure the company would not put a nurse in an unsafe living arrangement but have also read about some nurses getting robbed. Can anyone give me some positive feedback about going down there and which island is better to work on? Thanks for your help and happy traveling! |

I have not done any nursing on either island, but I have visited the Caribbean several times. I have not been to St. Croix, but I have been to St. Thomas and many other caribbean islands...............you can get robbed anywhere!!!!!!! The medical care and or facilities are not going to be like they are in the United States, like we are used to. If you want to go to a tropical island, see beautiful beaches, have gorgeous weather etc., etc., these islands fit the bill. St. Thomas is probably more "touristy" than St. Croix, but again, I have not been to St. Croix. I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and the "island time". I have just talked to WorldWide Travel about a job in St. Thomas or St. Croix....have you talked with them? I told them I want to talk to a nurse who has been there. They are supposed to get me in touch with someone. I have not done any travel, and am just starting to look at some jobs.........have you ever traveled to an island in the Caribbean? |

I took 2 assignments in St. Thomas with Trustaff. The housing was great, in a securuty complex this is a must. The majority of the island is quite poverty striken, so don't vear off the beaten path to far. The cost of living is outragous, groceries, gas etc. To rent a car, runs around $700.00/month + inurance, they drive on the left. Just an example, a dozen eggs is $3.50, a gallon of milk is $8.00 and that was just in March. After all the housing deductions and travel expences that Trustaff pays, you are deducted these costs from your weekly pay. An efficiency Apt is $1350.00 plus electric and water, called "wapo". But is soo beautiful, it was worth it. I plan to return soon! |
