I'm getting a bit tired of permanent positions and thinking of travelling, does anyone else know this kind of burnout?

I'm trying to decide whether to get a permanent position or to become a traveling nurse. Is there anyone has both experience?

I have. I much prefer travel nursing. There are enough positions for steady work and I like the change in senery.

I have worked on perm staff and as a travel nurse. I'll take travel over perm any day. You don't get caught up in the politics of the place you are working. If you don't like it, you only have 13 weeks and you can put up with anything for 13 weeks. Look for the adventure in travel. You get to go just about anywhere in the country you want.

You can sometimes even get travel nursing assignments that last less than 13 weeks.

I think what stage of life your in determines which is better. If your young with no attachments why not see the world. You will find down the road when your ready for a family that it will be a lot harder!

I really enjoyed my time as a travel nurse. But I recently got engaged and will become a permanent. Definently travel while your young!

Do you have to sign any kind of contract when you’re a permanent nurse?

having traveled for nine years i still can't go staff...per diem is where i'm at now. with all the crap going on i can cancel when i don't feel like working.....traveling isn't like in the "old days", when we told the recruiters where we wanted to go.....lots of assignments out there if your willing to be very flexible. every nurse should at least try one travel assignment......but beware......it's addicting!!!!!! good luck

i agree with all that ron says. i worked the 1st 5 years of my career as a staff hospital just 2.5 miles from my home [ which i own]. i still work per diem there when i am within driving distance on assignment or in btwn assignments.
truely, travel nursing is addicting.
also, it can be something you do when you're older and your kids are grown as well as before you settle down. i have also read stories from young couples raising their families on the road. home schooling is big, i guess. mine are grown and gone, but i have 4 grandchildren and i do get lonley for them when i am far away on assignment.
the long and short of it is this...
I LIKE TO BE HOME AND WORK PRN AT THE HOSPITAL I CUT MY TEETH AT AS WELL AS THE ADVENTURE OF TRAVELING.
good luck whatever you choose!!!
